Ali Yaghoubi (IR)

Ali Yaghoubi (b. Ardabil, Iran) is a visual artist currently living and working in Vienna. His practice spans photography, video, and installation, with a focus on staged and performative approaches.

Through his work, Yaghoubi explores themes of identity, memory, absence, and the human body. Deeply personal and often introspective, his projects are driven by a desire for self-discovery and an understanding of inner truths using the artistic process as a tool for navigating reality.

His perspective is shaped by a third person gaze: a detached yet intimate point of view that allows for both reflection and alienation. Influenced by cinematic language, philosophical inquiry, and bodily presence, Yaghoubi constructs spaces where emotional ambiguity and quiet resistance can unfold.

This project began before the pandemic and has grown over the course of four years, with new video fragments added annually. It is a visual journey through stillness, struggle, movement, and acceptance a ritual of release. Over time, the work transforms into a quiet meditation on absence: the empty space left behind by someone, or something, no longer there.
