CompactSun vol.3

diffracted glares
Max Sabitzer (AT); Bo Leiter (AT)
A giant sphere made of 1008 CDs turns the entire room into a sizzling and glaring sea of light. Footage of sunstorms and old science-fiction movies is projected onto the sculpture and allows visitors to stare directly into the sun. This installation is a declaration of love for storage media, which is increasingly falling out of favor. In this way this doomed dying star is producing one last colorful spectacle of the CD.
Max Sabitzer, born in Vienna in 2001, combines digital technologies with ecology in his films, photography and installations. He studied environmental management in Vienna and is now living in Linz, where he’s studying and working at the University of Art and Design. Intimate stories are found in natural, but also virtual landscapes and ultimately visualized through a variety of digital media.

Bo Gordon Leiter, born in Vienna in 1999, is a multimedia artist who specializes in sound and its response to various modes of transmission, such as sound reproduction through tubes or programming designed to react to external stimuli. His work takes a holistic approach to music production and sound design, ranging from programming his own instruments and building his own speakers to composing and constructing the supporting structure.
