Food of the future

by
Melinda Doktor

The project is aimed at developing a photobioreactor for cultivating microalgae – the superfood of the future. The designer wants to explore their potential in terms of small-scale production integrated with urban spaces. The compact growth unit comes with a set of tools which are useful in both production and consumption. As part of the research and design process, the author analyses the methods of processing microalgae as well as their composition and utility.

Melinda Doktor (Hungary, 1998) has been studying Glass Design at the Moholy- Nagy University of Art and Design since 2017. She designed the award for the International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in 2019 and received the Stefan Lengyel scholarship for her dessert plate design for the Onyx fine dining restaurant in 2021 while still in postgraduate education. In her works she often uses different materials – copper, metal, pigments and stickers – with hot glass. Nowadays she mostly deals with flameworking techniques, especially with neon art making.
