This year, the official opening of the Ars Electronica Festival pays tribute to a composer and organist who would have celebrated his 200th birthday on 4 September: Anton Bruckner. The event is on 04.09 and starts at 20:00, at the St. Mary’s Cathedral in Linz

At 23:30, the 12-piece ensemble “NoFive” then performs “Bruckner x Pop x No Wave”. Bruckner’s Fifth fuses with the iconic ‘Seven Nation Army’ riff by the White Stripes, is shaken and stirred in Glenn Branca style and forms an avant-garde soundscape somewhere between high and pop culture.

NoFive is aiming for nothing less. A fusion of Bruckner’s Fifth Symphony and the White Stripes’ iconic “Seven Nation Army” riff, shaken up and stirred in Glenn Branca style. A mighty wall of guitar amps amplifies the ensemble of nine electric guitarists, a bassist, a drummer and a conductor, allowing Bruckner’s Fifth to oscillate and vibrate as an avant-garde soundscape between high and pop culture.
