Material Matters

by Melanie Nutz

For her graduation collection Material Matters, Melanie Nutz deals with the topics of fashion and sustainability.

During her internship at palmer // harding in London, she developed an awareness of the global influences of the fashion industry on our environment. For this reason, resource conservation is particularly important to her while making a collection.

She researched three novel material concepts and methods  for her collection: “Zero Waste”, recycling and upcycling of existing materials. The upcycling method breathes a second life into shirts that have been shredded. Deconstruction and a model of hand weaving make clothing more durable and future-proof.
