With Deceiving Happiness, Max Menschhorn addresses trauma as a barrier to the outside world and translates social defence mechanisms into physical space, where plush becomes wearable armour. The seemingly cheerful and carefree objects made of cuddly fabric, bright colours and organic shapes form a façade for self­protection – Menschhorn creates portable structures that make isolation physically tangible and enable it to be experienced in shared warmth.
