Blütenstaubzimmer

Stephanie Bergwinkl, Caroline Alena Bergwinkl

Two artifacts from our family archive were the starting point: Our grandmother’s poetry album from 1934 and our grandfather’s clothes as a Bavarian policeman from 1945. Artifacts from our father’s side–pollen as the male part that contributes to inheritance and possibly passes on trauma. Through re-enactment, we appropriate the artifacts and interpret them into the present.

We invite visitors to reflect on coming to terms with our past by playing with the miniature artifacts in the sandbox and creating new mini-scenarios. The method of “sand play therapy” is used in trauma therapy and is based on Jung’s concept of the “collective unconscious”. Sand play can help individuals to get in touch with their unconscious in a safe, non-verbal and symbolic way.

Stephanie Bergwinkl (she/her) is studying Time Based Media at the Art University of Linz. Her work includes experimental essay films and performances which are often based on a game of chance. In her films, she embeds personal, intimate experiences in fictional narratives and likes to combine different styles of analog and digital recording media. She experiments with color and shape schemes. She is concerned with revealing the hidden, visualizing the inner, and processing pain.
