Binaural #2: mʊdʌki
by mʊdʌki (BY)
Attention! Very special concert format! This is a headphones concert! Bring your own or we can lend you a pair!
Behind mʊdʌki stands the audiovisual artist Polina Khatsenka, a student of the time-based media studio at the Faculty of Art and Design UJEP, originally from Minsk, Belarus. Her sonic outputs are characterized by a sensitive approach to the site and the audience, which together complete the event.
In her experimental tape performance, Polina addresses the lo-fi aesthetics of weary walkmans, uses them as a rich source of noises and inaccuracies, putting the outcoming audio signal into the role of a trigger and manipulator for digital post-production of sound samples, consisting of sonificated electromagnetic radiation on site and the content of the cassettes, which Polina intuitively selects for her performances. Resulting soundscapes bear a technogenic and at the same time animalistic, almost hallucinogenic, impression.
