In this lab, we will attempt to collectively develop methodological approaches, which will allow us to express ourselves with sound in real-time. Through this process, we will try to both demystify the practice of free-improvisation as well as gain a deeper understanding of the musical and theoretical notions which compose its underlying framework. From parametric thinking, through reflective observations, and finally, to understanding that improvisation transcends a specific medium–it is an art of relating to ourselves and each other.

Ivar Roban Krizic (HR)
studied Double Bass at the Jazz Department in Graz and is currently pursuing an Artistic Research Doctorate at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with research into the epistemology of free improvisation. His artistic practice involves a wide variety of international projects ranging from contemporary jazz to experimental music and free improvisation. His research deals with the notions of flow, reflection, and musical cognition in the context of free improvised music.

This workshop is aimed for sound artists, musicians and everyone curious about improvisation. Bring an instrument or sound element. There will be a PA, mixer and microphone available.

A final performance within the Sound Campus Line-up, will follow the 3-hour session.
