The department of Design: Tech.Tex will present two catalogues that have been produced within the framework of two project that took place in 2019-2020.

Faser Faden Fiktion (Fibre Thread Fiction)

The project “Fiber Fabric Fiction” was an expedition to electronic textiles, their materials, questions, and ideas. The pulling of fabrics into fibres and their spinning into fictions gave rise to new objects discourse and visions. They have been documented as travel guides for future travellers.

The project course in the winter semester 2019/2020 was led by guest lecturer Hannah Perner-Wilson. Four of the works shown in this exhibition were created as part of this project.

Hannah Perner-Wilson combines conductive materials and craft techniques to develop new styles of building electronics that emphasize materiality and process. She creates working prototypes to demonstrate the kind of electronic artifacts we could build for ourselves in a world of electronic diversity.

Märchen, Mythen, Materie (Myths and Matters)

The Ars Electronica Center’s Materials Laboratory will be showing works that have grown out of the “Myths and Matter” project, by Robert Angerer, Michaela Haager, Sofie Lüftinger, Neriman Polat, Andreas Schmied, Alessandra Steiner. Here, a storybook documents explorations of the potential of material as a narrative tool and the work on materials for future legends. The project course in the summer semester 2020 was led by guest lecturers Johanna Pichlbauer and Isabel Prade.

Johanna Pichlbauer works as a designer and curator in Vienna. Her work combines poesy and the magical with the challenges of new technologies, making visions of the future tangible.

Isabel Prade is an interdisciplinary designer. Using explorative media such as installations or video works, she visualizes and questions scientific developments and their influence on our society.
