The Sound of Tea

by Robert Angerer (AT)

The Sound of Tea shows the results of an exploratory process to create a material – kombucha – from tea, sugar, water and microorganisms. The kombucha has been combined with bent and wound copper wire and a permanent magnet to construct loudspeakers. The deliberate reduction is design and construction underlines the material and draws the viewer’s attention to the simple functionality of a loudspeaker.

The work was created within the framework of the project “Fiber Fabric Fiction”.

Robert Angerer (AT, 1993) is increasingly pursuing the use of new technologies during his studies at the Art University of Linz and experiments with their possible applications. As an autodidact, he researches alternative materials for sustainable applications and resource-saving constructions. He incorporates this future-oriented credo into his artistic work.
